This article gives three concrete drills with coaching cues and a short 20-minute session plan to improve quick passing, spatial awareness and rotation — the practical building blocks of high-possession play.

Circle Rondo

  1. 6v2 Rondo (8–10 minutes): Small touches only. Encourage one-touch when pressure rises and two-touch for controlled change of direction. Cue: ‘‘check shoulders, pass early, move to a free line.’’

20-minute micro-session

  • Warm-up (4 min): dynamic passing and mobility.
  • Rondo (8 min): progressive pressure, increase tempo last 2 minutes.
  • Triangles (6 min): emphasize third-man options and limited touches.
  • Debrief (2 min): one concrete correction per player.

Coaching notes: reward scanning and movement off the ball equally to accurate passing. Limit touches early in the week to build speed, then reintroduce two-touch for control when fatigue rises.
